Putting together a realistic field sleep setup and trying not to burn money chasing “operator” hype. I do weekend rucks and occasional longer trips where weather turns fast (cold nights, damp ground, wind). I’m looking for best value for money, not necessarily the lightest. I’m confused by the options: modular military sleep systems vs. a single 3-season bag, quilts + bivy, surplus stuff, etc.
Priorities: warm enough for shoulder seasons, handles moisture reasonably, packs down decently for a 40–60L ruck, and doesn’t fall apart after a year. Budget is flexible but I’d rather buy once than upgrade every season. What setups are you running that you consider the best value sleep system for field use?
