I’m trying to settle on an optic setup that actually makes sense for the money. I’m not chasing “cool guy” gear, just something dependable for range work and classes, and that would make sense in a practical military-style kit.
Use case: mostly 0–300 yards, sometimes stretching to 500 on steel. Rifle is a 16" AR, and I’m torn between a simple red dot + magnifier, a 1-6/1-8 LPVO, or a fixed prism/ACOG-style optic. Budget is flexible but I don’t want to overspend if 80–90% of the performance is available cheaper.
What optic do you think offers the best value for money right now (not just the cheapest), and why? Also interested in durability, battery life, and whether the “buy once cry once” optics are truly worth it for regular shooters.
