I’m trying to buy one backpack that’ll cover most of my needs without paying “brand tax.” Use case: weekend range days, short hikes, and occasional travel (carry-on if possible). I don’t need a full-on expedition ruck, but I do want something that can handle abuse, has decent back support, and doesn’t shred zippers in a year. Budget is roughly $120–$250, but I’ll stretch if the durability/value is clearly better.
What packs do you all think are the best value for money right now (tactical/military style or crossover)? Bonus points if you can comment on real comfort under 20–35 lb loads, warranty/customer service, and whether MOLLE is actually useful or just extra weight.
