Trying to tighten up my field food plan and I’m curious what you all consider the “ideal rations setup” for a realistic military-style loadout. I’m not talking about fantasy ultralight hiking only—more like training weekends, range days, or extended time away from a kitchen where you still want something reliable.
Constraints I’m thinking about: calories vs weight, hot vs cold meals, cleanup, trash discipline, and how it all rides in the pack. I’ve used a mix of MREs and random snacks, but it always ends up either too heavy or too messy. Also curious how you structure it by time (24-hour pack vs 72-hour sustainment), and what you prioritize: morale food, caffeine, electrolytes, etc.
So: if you could design your ideal rations setup (not asking for anything classified, just practical), what would it look like and why?
