I’m putting together a realistic comms kit for training weekends and range days (not trying to play operator, just tired of the cheap handhelds and bad audio). I want something that works in the field: decent range for squad-size movement, clear audio in wind, and a setup that doesn’t fall apart when it gets dusty or wet.
If you were building your “ideal radio equipment setup” today, what would you include and why? I’m thinking about the whole ecosystem: radio type (handheld vs vehicle/mobile), antenna options, PTT/headset, how you carry it, spare power, and any simple comms plan habits that make the gear actually usable.
I’m not asking for anything sketchy—just best practices and general recommendations so I can buy once and cry once. What’s your go-to setup?
