I’m trying to dial in my “one setup that just works” for boots. I’m not talking about a single brand being perfect for everything, but a full system: boots + socks + insoles + lacing + care routine.
Context: I do a mix of range days, short rucks (nothing crazy), and a lot of time on hard surfaces (concrete/packed gravel). Weather swings from hot/dry to wet and muddy. I’ve had issues with hot spots and heel slip when I’m moving fast, and I’m tired of doing the trial-and-error cycle every season.
So if you could build your ideal boots setup from scratch, what would it be? Boot height, outsole type, leather vs synthetic, waterproof vs non-waterproof, sock layering, insoles, how you lace (lock lace, etc.), and how you maintain them. Bonus points if you explain why your setup works and what terrain it’s best for.
