I’m new to survival and bushcraft and trying to be realistic about foraging. I’ve done weekend hikes and a couple short camping trips, but I’ve never relied on wild food. I keep seeing videos where people just grab plants and mushrooms like it’s no big deal.
I’m not trying to eat like a caveman—more like: if I got stuck overnight or an extra day, what foods are “beginner traps” that I should just NOT touch? I’m especially worried about lookalikes and anything that could ruin your trip fast. I’m in the US (mixed forest / fields depending on the trip). What wild foods should beginners avoid, and what’s the safer mindset for starting out?
