I’m rebuilding my kit after a couple rough weekend trips (rain, mud, and one night of surprise cold). I’m trying to be smarter with money: I don’t want to buy “tacticool” junk, but I also don’t want to cheap out on something that can actually ruin a trip or become an emergency.
If you had to prioritize, what survival gear is genuinely worth spending extra money on? I’m thinking boots, rain gear, a better pack, water filter, headlamp, and maybe a nicer sleeping bag. Mostly short hikes and overnights right now, but I’d like to work up to longer trips. Practical advice welcome—what broke on you, what held up, and what you’d never buy bargain-bin again?
