I’m pretty new to this. I’m not trying to cosplay or build some “end of the world” thing, I just want a solid survival/emergency kit for my car and maybe a smaller one for day hikes. When I search online it’s a mess: cheap Amazon bundles with 100+ items, tactical looking bags, “military grade” labels, and prices from $25 to $500.
What should a beginner actually know before buying a survival kit? Like: what items are non-negotiable, what’s usually junk, how do you tell quality, and what’s a reasonable budget? Also anything I should avoid because of legality (knives/tools) or because it gives a false sense of security. I’d rather buy less but buy the right stuff and learn how to use it.
