I’m new to the range (mostly indoor, sometimes outdoor) and I’m trying to buy my first hearing protection. There are foam earplugs, over-ear muffs, and the electronic ones that amplify voices. I don’t want to cheap out and regret it, but I also don’t want to buy something “tacticool” that doesn’t actually protect my hearing.
What should a beginner look for before buying hearing protection—NRR ratings, fit, doubling up, electronic vs passive, comfort with eye pro/helmet, etc.? Any common mistakes to avoid? If it matters, I wear glasses and I’m planning on taking a basic carbine class later this year.
