I’m new to military-style gear and I’m looking at buying my first set of camouflage (pants + top). It’s mostly for outdoor range days, hiking, and general field use—nothing “operator,” just durable and practical. I’m noticing there are tons of patterns (Multicam, M81, MARPAT style, digital stuff, etc.) and even within the same pattern the quality/fabric varies a lot.
What do beginners usually get wrong when buying camo? I’m trying to avoid wasting money on something that looks cool online but doesn’t work in my area or falls apart. Also wondering about stuff like: matching the environment vs “one pattern for everything,” fabric weight for seasons, proper sizing, whether to buy surplus vs new, and any do’s/don’ts (like wearing certain patterns in public). Any advice appreciated.
