What ship class deserves more recognition?

Destroyer escorts / frigates in WWII, especially the U.S. DEs, deserve far more recognition than they get in popular history. Everyone remembers carriers and battleships, but the Battle of the Atlantic and the broader convoy war were fundamentally contests of endurance, doctrine, and escort tactics.

DEs weren’t glamorous, but they were purpose-built for ASW: sonar/ASDIC, hedgehog forward-throwing weapons, depth charge patterns, and crews trained to hunt submarines for hours. They protected troop convoys, oilers, ammo ships—the arteries of the war. Without that protection, the “big fleet” doesn’t sail and the industrial advantage can’t reach the front.
