What military units are known for using specific plate carriers?

I’m trying to learn how people identify plate carriers by unit, and where that’s actually legit vs just internet lore. I’ll see photos labeled “SEAL kit” or “Ranger carrier” and it’s always a Crye/Spiritus/LBT style rig, but I know a lot of stuff is privately purchased, mixed, or just whatever was available.

Is there a decent list of military units that are genuinely known for using specific plate carriers (issued, contracted, or at least commonly seen), and what time periods matter? I’m not trying to “impersonate” anyone—this is for my own gear nerd notes and to understand why certain carriers got associated with certain units. Also if there are common mistakes people make when trying to ID a unit by carrier, call those out too.

If you still want a practical framework, make a matrix: time period (2003–2008, 2009–2014, 2015–present), mission type (DA/recce/mech/shipboard), and then “commonly observed carriers” as a probabilistic note, not a label.

That approach also survives the next procurement cycle—because the model names will change, but the functional requirements will stay similar.
