I’m trying to put together a realistic reference list for military gear (mostly for training notes and some writing), and I keep getting conflicting answers about who actually uses what for hearing protection. I see a lot of Peltor ComTac, Sordin, in-ear CEP-style stuff, and then sometimes just the classic foamies or double hearing protection.
Are there any units (US or non-US) that are especially known for specific hearing protection setups? Like “this community tends to run ComTac + downlead,” or “these guys prefer in-ear under helmets,” or “armored crews use X because of vehicle noise.” I’m not looking for anything sensitive—just common, publicly known trends and what makes sense by role (infantry vs SOF vs armor vs aviation, etc.).
