I’m trying to ID some flashlights I keep seeing in photos and old kit lists, and I’m wondering how much of it is “this unit uses X light” vs “someone bought it locally.”

Examples: you’ll see SureFire in a lot of SOF pics, angle-head lights in older Army/Navy photos, and right-angle/helmet lights in modern infantry shots. I’m not trying to start rumors or do any unit “tell,” just looking for broad, well-known associations (like standard issue programs, common procurement choices, or historically documented loadouts).

So: what military units are known for using specific flashlights (past or present), and why? Any good references (TM’s, NSNs, procurement notes, memoirs) are welcome.
