I’ve been reading a lot about special operations and conventional recon lately, and I’m trying to understand what actually separates an “effective” reconnaissance operator from someone who’s just good at moving quietly.
Is it mostly selection/training, or is it more about personality traits like patience and discipline? How much of effectiveness is about observation and reporting vs. navigation and stealth? And with modern sensors and drones everywhere, what skills still matter most for a human recon team?
Not looking for anything sketchy—just trying to understand the fundamentals and what experienced people think really makes recon work in real military operations.
