I’ve been rotating through a couple pairs of “tactical” boots for hikes and a few weekend range days, and I’m realizing boots are one of those items where small mistakes get expensive fast (hot spots, wet feet, sore knees). I’m not looking for brand wars as much as real lessons learned over time.
What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned from actually using boots—break-in, sizing, socks, insoles, lacing, waterproof vs breathable, care/cleaning, when to replace them, etc.? I’m especially curious what changes when you add a ruck, bad weather, or long days on hard surfaces. What do you wish you knew before you bought your first “serious” pair?
