I’ve been reading up on modern frigates and I’m trying to figure out which one is genuinely the “most versatile” in real service today—not just best on paper. I mean a ship that can credibly do ASW, self-defense AAW, surface warfare, escort duties, maritime security, and still integrate with a carrier/expeditionary group if needed.
I know “versatile” depends on the navy, doctrine, and what missiles they’re actually allowed/able to carry, but I’m looking for a solid answer based on typical loadouts, sensors, aviation facilities, and how well the class adapts to different missions over a deployment.
If you had to pick one current in-service frigate class as the best all-rounder (and why), what would it be?
