Been seeing this question pop up everywhere and it always turns into memes, so I’m trying to ask it in a more serious way. When people say a unit is “overrated,” do they mean the unit is bad (doubt it), or just that the public hype/marketing/movie portrayal is way bigger than what the unit actually does most of the time?
I’m not asking for OPSEC or “my cousin said” stories. I’m talking about public perception vs reality: mission sets, how often they’re actually used, what they’re good at, and what people assume they can do (like being the best at everything).
If you had to pick one special forces unit that gets more credit than it deserves compared to peers—who and why? Also interested in what metrics you’d use: combat record, selection standards, strategic impact, or just media saturation.
