I’m trying to clean up my kit before a couple training weekends and I’m realizing I’ve been buying multitools based on hype more than actual use. I’ve owned a few “flagship” models that looked amazing on paper, but in practice I either didn’t use half the functions or something felt flimsy once it got gritty, wet, or cold.
So I’m curious: what multitools do you think are the most overrated on the market right now (or in general)? Not saying they’re useless—just that they don’t live up to the price, reputation, or “tactical” marketing. If you think a specific model line is overrated, what’s the failure point for you (pliers, drivers, locks, corrosion, bulk, proprietary bits, etc.) and what would you carry instead for real field work?
