I’m shopping for my first serious armor setup and I’m noticing a lot of hype vs. actual data. Every brand’s website makes it sound like their plate/carrier combo is “operator grade,” and every influencer clip is basically a commercial.
For context: I’m not deploying or anything, just want a solid, realistic setup for training classes and preparedness. I’m trying to avoid spending big money on something that’s popular but not actually better (or is uncomfortable, poorly built, or has sketchy testing).
So in your opinion, what’s the most overrated body armor on the market right now—and why? Could be plates, carriers, “special threat” stuff, ultra-light gimmicks, whatever. If you can, mention what you’d choose instead and what to look for (testing standards, weight, warranty, fit, etc.).
