I’ve been reading a lot about modern naval warfare and trying to understand what people mean when they say “carrier battle group” vs “carrier strike group.” If you were designing the ideal aircraft carrier battle group today, what would you include and why?
I’m not talking about a fantasy fleet with unlimited budget—more like a realistic, modern force that can do air superiority, strike, ASW, and protect sea lanes. How many destroyers/cruisers, frigates, submarines, logistics ships, etc.? And what does the “ideal” air wing look like if you expect contested airspace?
I’m curious how much of the answer is doctrine and mission (deterrence vs warfighting) versus “one size fits all.”
