I’m aiming for a selection-style course in the next 6–9 months (not going to name the unit, just want solid prep advice). I’m not new to fitness, but I’m new to the selection environment where it’s long days, lots of rucking, limited sleep, and constant assessment.
Right now I run 3x/week (5–8 miles), lift 3x/week (basic compound work), and ruck once on weekends (usually 35–45 lb for 6–10 miles). My weak points are (1) staying strong after hours of movement, (2) foot care/blisters, and (3) pacing—I either go too hard early or too slow.
What’s the best way to train for selection courses without wrecking myself? I’m looking for a structure (weekly plan ideas), priorities (run vs ruck vs strength), and anything people wish they had done earlier. Also open to mental prep and recovery tips. I’ll follow up with specifics if needed.
