I’m trying to be intentional about my next 12–18 months and not just “do my time.” I’m a junior enlisted with solid performance so far, no major screw-ups, decent PT, and I show up on time. But I keep hearing “stand out” and it’s vague.
What actually moves the needle for promotions in a realistic way? Is it more about schools/certs, being the go-to person on shift, volunteering for extra stuff, or networking with leaders? I’m not looking for shortcuts or anything shady—just want to understand what high performers do differently so I can build a plan. Any concrete examples would help.
