I’m putting together a weekend survival kit and doing a few solo day hikes on public land. I’m not trying to do anything extreme, but I realized I’ve mostly relied on marked streams and trailhead faucets. If I got turned around or had to spend a night out, what’s the best way to actually FIND water in the wilderness (not just carry it)?
I’m looking for practical, realistic advice: what terrain features to look for, what methods are worth the effort, and what’s a bad idea. Also, I know treatment matters—just trying to understand the “find it” part first so I don’t waste time or energy.
