I’m trying to narrow down the best plate carriers for actual military use (not just range days). I’m not chasing a “cool guy” setup—more like something that holds up to field training, vehicle work, and long days in kit. I’m about average build, and I’m looking for a carrier that balances comfort, durability, and a sensible loadout (mags, IFAK, radio). I’ve seen a lot of opinions on brands like Crye, LBT, Ferro, Spiritus, and others, but it’s hard to separate hype from what’s dependable.
If you’ve used plate carriers in real training/field conditions, what models held up best and why? Also curious about what matters more in practice: weight, padding, cummerbund type, quick-release, or compatibility with issued pouches/plates. I’m not asking for anything sensitive—just practical buying guidance and things to avoid.
