I’m putting together a more serious light setup for field training and range time, and I’m trying to figure out what people mean when they say “best flashlights for military use.” I’ve used cheap pocket lights before, but I keep running into issues like switches failing, weird battery drain, and not being able to operate it reliably with gloves.
I’m looking for recommendations for a rugged handheld and (possibly) a weapon light option. Priorities: durability, simple controls under stress, decent throw for spotting, and batteries I can actually find. I’m not chasing the highest lumens if it means overheating or short runtime. Also curious what features matter in real military contexts (red light, low modes, strobe, programmable output, etc.). What would you buy today and why?
