I’m putting together a more realistic understanding of what “best camouflage” actually means for military use. I’ve seen people argue Multicam vs M81 vs MARPAT vs digital patterns, but it feels like everyone just picks what looks cool.
I’m not asking for anything shady—more like an educational take: how do militaries decide what camo works, and what matters most (terrain, season, distance, IR/NIR, dirt/wear, etc.)? If you had to generalize for modern operations, what patterns or approaches tend to perform best, and why?
