I’m trying to build a “military practical” fitness base and I keep getting pulled in two directions. If I lift 4 days a week my running feels dead and rucks feel rough. If I run more, my strength numbers stall and I feel smaller/weaker.
My goals are pretty basic: be strong enough for carry work (sandbags, loaded carries), pass a decent run (2–5 miles), and not gas out on longer efforts like hiking/rucking. Right now I can lift consistently but I’m inconsistent with cardio because I don’t know what the right balance is.
If you had to pick a weekly mix (days and types of sessions), what’s the best balance between strength and cardio without burning out? Also, any tips on keeping legs from feeling destroyed when you do both?
