I’m putting together a new kit for classes and range days (maybe some competition later) and I want to do it right the first time. I’m not trying to clone any specific unit—just want a plate carrier that’s actually reliable: strong stitching, good materials, doesn’t sag over time, and won’t fall apart if I run it hard.
Use case: mostly training (carbine + pistol), some outdoor work in heat, and I’d like something comfortable for a few hours at a time. I’m not chasing ultra-minimalism, but I don’t want a huge bulky carrier either. I’ve seen Crye, Ferro, Spiritus, LBT, First Spear, and a bunch of others—plus tons of cheaper options.
What brands have the best track record for reliability? Also, any “avoid” brands you’ve personally seen fail? Not looking for legal advice or anything like that—just honest gear experience and what to look for.
