I’m putting together a small “field sustainment” kit for longer hikes and weekend training events (nothing extreme, just realistic). I’ve tried a couple civilian freeze-dried meals and some energy bars, but I’m curious about actual military-style rations.
For those who’ve used rations in real conditions (training, deployments, long ranges, cold/wet weather, vehicle ops, etc.), what’s your honest experience?
I’m especially interested in: how they sit in your stomach over multiple days, what you actually end up eating vs trading, what you do for hydration/electrolytes, and any little tricks that make rations more workable without turning it into a whole cooking project.
Not asking for anything “secret,” just practical, real-world perspectives.
