I’m trying to buy one backpack that can cover most of my needs: gym + commuting during the week, and some weekend range days / hikes. I’ve had a couple “tactical” packs that looked great but dug into my shoulders when loaded, and one hiking pack that carried well but the zippers and fabric felt flimsy.

For people who actually use their packs hard (rucking, field work, travel, training, etc.), what models or design features held up for you? I’m especially curious about comfort under load, how the frame/suspension matters, and what fails first in real life (zippers, stitching, buckles, fabric, straps).
