I’m putting together a no-nonsense field kit and I want to upgrade from a cheap “tacticool” fixed blade to something genuinely professional-grade. Use case: general camp/field chores, cutting cordage/straps, light wood processing, and the occasional hard use where a knife gets treated like a tool. Not looking for a giant Rambo blade, and I’m not trying to turn a knife into a pry bar.
What brands/models do you trust for real durability and a sheath system that won’t fail? I’m also curious what you’d pick if you had to choose one fixed blade and one folder as a backup. Budget is flexible if it’s actually worth it, but I’d rather pay once than keep replacing broken knives.
