I’m trying to improve my grip strength for overall military fitness—pull-ups, rope work, rucking, and just handling gear without my hands gassing out. I can do decent pull-ups but I’m the guy who starts slipping on deadlifts and hangs before my back/legs are actually tired. I don’t have a full gym every day (sometimes just a pull-up bar and a couple dumbbells/kettlebells), and I’d rather not wreck my elbows/forearms by doing something dumb.
What are the best exercises for grip strength that actually carry over to field tasks (carrying stuff, climbing, dragging, etc.)? And how would you program them without overdoing it?
