I’m a new recruit candidate and I’m trying to set realistic fitness goals without going full “social media commando.” I’m not totally out of shape, but I’m not an athlete either. Right now I can run a couple miles at an okay pace, do some push-ups, and I lift casually. I keep hearing different advice: focus only on running, focus on strength, or just do high-rep calisthenics nonstop.
I’m looking for realistic goals over the next 8–12 weeks that actually translate to basic training: run times, push-ups/sit-ups, pull-ups, ruck ability, and general durability (not getting injured). What should a normal person aim for before shipping out, and what’s a smart way to track progress? Also, any “common mistakes” you wish you avoided when you were prepping?
