I’m putting together a realistic “bare-minimum” food plan for short hikes and a possible bug-out situation, mostly as a skills project. I’m not trying to do anything illegal or reckless—more like learning what’s actually practical if you had to rely on trapping instead of fishing or carrying tons of food.
In general terms (not asking for step-by-step instructions), what animals are usually considered the easiest to trap for food in a survival situation? I’m thinking about effort vs. calories, how common they are, and how beginner-friendly it is to learn. Also interested in any “don’t bother” animals that sound easy but aren’t worth it.
