Best Plate Carrier Accessories for Real-World Loadouts

I’m dialing in my first serious plate carrier setup and trying not to buy a pile of stuff I don’t need. Use case is mostly range/training classes and occasional outdoor drills with buddies (no duty use). I already have the carrier and plates, but right now it’s basically slick and I’m debating what accessories actually make sense: mag pouches vs a placard, admin pouch, hydration, radio pouch, dump pouch, dangler, etc.

What accessories pair best with plate carriers in a practical “do more than look cool” way? I’m also curious how you prioritize comfort (shoulder pads, cummerbund upgrades) versus capability (more pouches). Any brand-agnostic tips on placement, noise, and keeping it not overly bulky would help.

Looking ahead, the “accessories” that will increasingly pair with plate carriers are mounting and integration points: cable routing, battery placement, and quick-attach hardware for sensors.

For right now, you can future-proof without going overboard:

- Keep a clean front with a modular placard interface.

- Add simple routing solutions (Velcro one-wrap, elastic channels) so you can manage a PTT cable, a small light lead, or a power cable if you ever run accessories.

- Consider a small general-purpose pouch that can hold a battery pack or small device securely.

I’d avoid anything that requires specialized power or complicated mounts unless you have a defined need and training to match. The best “tech” setup is still one that doesn’t fail under sweat, dirt, and repeated movement.
