I’m training for a military-style fitness test and generally trying to build better conditioning (runs, intervals, strength days, plus some ruck walks on weekends). I’ve never used a fitness tracker seriously—mostly just my phone timer. A couple buddies swear by their Garmin/Apple watches for pacing and recovery, but I’ve also heard trackers can be wildly off for calories/heart rate, and I don’t want to turn training into staring at a wrist screen.
For people who’ve used them during real training blocks: how useful are fitness trackers during training, honestly? What metrics are actually worth paying attention to (pace, HR zones, sleep, VO2 estimate, steps, etc.) and what’s basically noise? Also curious how they do with rucking and being sweaty/dirty, and whether you found them motivating or distracting.
