I’m trying to build a consistent routine for survival skills without turning it into a full-time hobby. I can get outside maybe 1–2 weekends a month, and during the week I’ve got limited time (work + family). I’ve done a basic first aid class, can start a fire in good conditions, and I’m okay with simple hikes, but I don’t feel confident if weather turns or if I’m tired/stressed.
So for people who actually practice: how often should you train survival skills to keep them sharp? Like fire, shelter, navigation, water, basic fieldcraft. Is weekly practice necessary, or can you do a monthly “field day” and be fine? I’m not trying to be Rambo—just want solid, realistic preparedness and not forget everything between trips.
