I’m trying to dial in my kit for longer field time and I’m not sure what the realistic lifespan is for hearing protection when you’re actually living in it.
I’ve got a mix of foam plugs and a set of electronic muffs (nothing super cheap, but not top-tier either). Between sweat, dust, rain, getting shoved into a ruck, and just daily wear, how long should “quality” hearing pro realistically last before you should replace it? I’m not talking about a set living in a safe on range days—more like weeks of training cycles, mounted ops, comms use, etc.
Also, what are the telltale signs they’re no longer sealing right? I don’t want to find out during live fire or around vehicles.
