I’m getting serious about putting in a packet and I keep hearing different things about land nav during selection. Some guys say it’s the make-or-break event, others say if you’re fit you’ll be fine and they’ll teach you enough.
I’m decent hiking and I can read a map in the basic sense, but I haven’t done real point-to-point land navigation under time, especially at night or under stress. I’m trying to prioritize training time (running/rucking/strength vs land nav practice). For people who’ve been through selection or work around it: how important is land navigation actually, and what level should a candidate be at before showing up?
