I’ve been reading a lot about special forces raids and hostage rescue, and it seems like everyone says “intel is everything.” But I’m trying to understand what that actually means in practice.

Is intelligence gathering basically the main effort (like the real mission happens before the mission), or is it just one piece of the puzzle alongside training, surprise, and good equipment? Also curious how it changes depending on the job—direct action raid vs reconnaissance vs advising partner forces.

Not looking for classified stuff obviously—just trying to get a realistic perspective on why intel matters so much for special operations and what “good intel” looks like at the ground level.
