I’m trying to dial in my training for a future military career and I keep hearing mixed takes on flexibility. Some people say it’s “nice to have” but strength and cardio matter more, others say lack of mobility is why so many folks get hurt when rucking, climbing, or doing kit drills.

Right now I lift 3x/week and run 2–3x/week. I’m tight in hips/hamstrings/ankles, and after long sits (school + part-time job) my lower back feels stiff. I’m not trying to become a yoga person, but I also don’t want to show up to basic/selection and get sidelined over something preventable.

For actual military personnel: how important is flexibility really, and what’s the minimum “effective dose” you’d recommend (like a few drills, warmup, cooldown, etc.)? Also, does it matter more for certain roles (infantry, aviation, armor, SF) or is it universal?
