I’m trying to wrap my head around how much “adaptability” is actually valued compared to just executing the plan. In training scenarios (and even in work stuff outside the military), I notice some people lock onto the original plan even when conditions change. Others improvise constantly and sometimes it feels risky.
For those with experience or knowledge: during real missions, how important is adaptability vs sticking to SOPs and the commander’s intent? Is it something you can train deliberately, or is it mostly personality? I’m especially curious how teams balance flexibility with not creating chaos.
