I’m prepping for a military-style fitness test and generally trying to be more “operational” fit (not just gym strong). Right now my routine is mostly steady runs (3–5 miles), some rucks on weekends, and basic lifting (squat/press/pull). A buddy keeps telling me I’m missing the point if I don’t do sprints.

How important are sprint workouts for military fitness and real-world carryover? I’m not trying to become a track sprinter, but I do want better performance on runs, faster recovery, and that ability to surge when you’re smoked. Also, any practical way to add sprints without wrecking my knees/shins? I’ve had mild shin splints in the past so I’m cautious.
