I’ve been reading a lot about modern conflicts and it feels like the headlines are always drones, precision missiles, and fighters doing air policing. But then you still see big strategic bombers in service and even new programs being funded.
So how important are bombers today, realistically? Are they mainly for nuclear deterrence, or do they still matter for conventional wars? I’m trying to understand where bombers fit compared to cruise missiles, stealth fighters carrying bombs, and stand-off weapons—especially with modern air defenses.
Curious how people here see it in terms of doctrine and real-world use, not just “they look cool.”
