I’m trying to get better about maintaining my field knives instead of only messing with them when they’re already dull or spot-rusted. I’ve got a couple fixed blades (one carbon steel, one stainless) and a folding knife I keep in my pack. After weekend range days and some hiking, they’re usually dusty, sometimes wet, and the sheath ends up full of grit.
What’s your routine for cleaning, sharpening, and preventing rust in “field conditions” when you don’t have a full bench setup? Also curious how you handle the sheath (leather vs kydex/nylon) and whether you oil the blade every time or only after certain conditions. Looking for realistic, not-overkill habits I can stick to.
