I recently picked up a plate carrier and a set of plates (plus I have an older soft armor insert from a surplus vest). I’m not trying to be tacticool, I just want to keep it in good shape for training days and range trips.

What’s the right way to clean body armor and the carrier without messing up the materials? Do you wipe plates down only, can you wash soft armor panels, and what should you look for during inspections (cracks, delamination, etc.)? Also, any best practices for storage in a garage (heat/humidity) and how often you replace stuff? I’ve read a lot of conflicting advice and don’t want to ruin expensive gear.
