How difficult is it to obtain a security clearance?

I’m looking at enlisting and a lot of the jobs I’m interested in mention needing a security clearance. I don’t have anything crazy in my background, but I’m nervous because I’ve moved a few times, had some short-term jobs, and I have a couple old tickets (nothing violent). I also have family overseas (not in any hostile country, just not US-based).

How difficult is it actually to get a clearance (Secret vs Top Secret)? Is it more about being “perfect,” or more about being honest and consistent? And what usually causes delays or denials? Trying to figure out if I should avoid MOS/ratings that require it or if I’m overthinking it.
