I keep seeing people online either hype the SASR like they’re unstoppable or downplay them because Australia is “small.” I’m not trying to start a fan war—just want a grounded take.
How capable is Australia’s SASR in real terms? Like: what are they known for historically, what kinds of missions do they realistically focus on (direct action, recon, CT, training partners?), and how do they stack up with units like UK SAS, US SEALs/Delta, etc.?
I know a lot is classified, so I’m mostly asking about what’s publicly known and what can be inferred from doctrine and past deployments. If anyone has good sources to read (books, official histories), I’d appreciate it.
